A Florida man was arrested after authorities said he tried to quarantine on a shuttered island within Walt Disney World, thinking it was a “tropical paradise.”

Richard McGuire, 42, was found on Disney’s Discovery Island on Thursday, police said.

He told investigators he had been there since Monday or Tuesday and had planned to stay there for at least a week.

A security guard noticed McGuire using a company boat Thursday and called authorities.

Despite numerous “no trespassing” signs and multiple locked gates, McGuire told investigators he did not realize the area was off-limits.

“Richard stated that he was unaware of that and that it looked like a tropical paradise,” according to the arrest report.

McGuire was arrested and charged with trespassing.

Discovery Island was previously called Treasure Island and was the site of a zoological attraction that closed in 1999.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
