The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the United States, and health care officials are struggling to meet the demand for tests to confirm that people who are sick actually have the virus.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed cases of COVID-19 in every state with Washington and New York posting the highest numbers of confirmed cases of the virus.

While the number is growing in the U.S., public health officials have warned that the actual number of people with COVID-19 is much higher than the number of confirmed cases because testing was not readily available as the virus gained a foothold in the United States.
