Members of a south Texas community gathered in a hospital parking lot Monday to pay tribute to first responders, doctors, nurses and patients who have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

People sang and prayed outside Frio Regional Hospital in Pearsall, located southwest of San Antonio, KENS-TV reported.

video shared on Facebook by Pearsall City Council member Davina Trevino-Rodriguez showed cars in a parking lot with their emergency flashers blinking, the television station reported. The residents adhered to social distancing guidelines by keeping a safe distance.

It is a tribute residents want to continue around the San Antonio area.

"We want to go ahead and thank these people here, they come out every single day and they're on the front lines of this," one resident told KENS. "Our nation is in trouble and we need to stay strong, we need to listen to the rules, we need to listen to our president and to our governor."

Residents ended the event with a prayer for protection and honked their horns in unison in a final show of support.
