A deputy and resident were attacked by a mountain lion Wednesday afternoon in Colorado.

Larimer County sheriff's deputies and Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers were called out to a mobile home park around 1:55 p.m. after a mountain lion attacked a resident, officials said.

They tracked the animal through the trailer park when it attacked a deputy. Video of the incident shows officers kicking at the animal to get it off the female officer before multiple shots rang out, KDVR reported. However, the big cat ran off.

Officials continued tracking the injured mountain lion. A Colorado game warden later shot and killed it, the Loveland Reporter-Herald reported.

A necropsy will be conducted on it. Officials said mountain lion attacks are rare.

The deputy and resident were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
