Most everyone has seen the name, and probably at a loss of how to actually say X Æ A-12, but it may not matter.

The name, or random characters that were chosen by new parents Elon Musk and Grimes, may not be accepted by California state officials.

The couple announced the birth and the unique name of their son this week, but many thought the name was not serious, the BBC reported.

Grimes shortly after went to Twitter to explain where they came up with X Æ A-12.

There are rules in The Golden State that says no pictographs, ideograms and diacritical marks can be in a name when it's on a birth register. Names have to be limited to the 26 letters in the alphabet, BBC reported.

Other punctuation symbols are permitted if needed, CBS News reported.

This is Grimes', whose real name is Claire Boucher, first child but the sixth for Musk. He is the father to a set of twins and a set of triplets from a previous marriage, USA Today, reported.
