Val Demings, a Democrat from Central Florida, said she would be "honored" if chosen as Joe Biden's running mate.

U.S. Rep. Val Demings said Saturday morning that she would be willing to serve as former Vice President Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election if he were to ask her.

Demings, a Democrat who represents Florida’s 10th congressional district and is a former police chief in Orlando, told Joy Reid while appearing on MSNBC’s “AM Joy” that she would accept such an invitation because she wants to help lead the nation through the COVID-19 pandemic public health crisis.

Demings was asked in March about her name being floated around as a possible contender.

"I love being a member of Congress, but if asked, I would consider it an honor,” she said.

Demings has previously served as a social worker and a manager of the impeachment case against President Donald Trump.

Demings spoke at the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
