JetBlue bans passenger who told crew he had coronavirus upon landing

The passenger was overheard talking about the result and crew notified health officials, The New York Times reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has asked people who believe they have the coronavirus or those awaiting tests to avoid travel.

After telling staff members, the airports started cleaning the areas where he walked by, including gates, security checkpoints and check-in counters. After temporarily closing down a concourse the passenger went through, Palm Beach International Airport is operating as usual, CNN reported.

"JetBlue had no prior indication that this customer had or may have had coronavirus," the airline said in a statement, the Times reported. "Last night's event put our crewmembers, customers, and federal and local officials in an unsettling situation that could have easily been avoided, and as such, this customer will not be permitted to fly on JetBlue in the future."

The condition, identity and where the passenger is being quarantined was not released.

There were 114 passengers on the flight. Those who were in close proximity to the passenger to monitor themselves for symptoms.
