Attorneys for a man who was beaten by deputies after running away from them, first by car and then by horse, have negotiated a $650,000 settement from San Bernardino County.
Francis Pusok, 30, was chased through the desert April 9 as deputies attempted to serve him with a search warrant in an identity-theft investigation.
Pusok’s detention and beating led to a federal probe and the suspension of 10 deputies under internal investigation. Those investigations are not affected by the monetary settlement, which was negotiated to avoid a civil lawsuit.
