Man hit by plane at Austin airport dies

A man was hit by a plane that was landing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Thursday night.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight told the control tower he saw a person on the runway just before the plane touched down, KEYE reported.

Southwest Airlines said the plane maneuvered to avoid the person and that it came to a quick, safe stop. The company is working with law enforcement and the FAA as part of the investigation, KEYE reported.

An airport operations vehicle driver found the man on the runway later, USA Today reported.

Officials are trying to find out the identity of the man and why he was on the runway at the time, The Associated Press reported.
