A Massachusetts man is accused of assaulting a 66-year-old man Friday afternoon after a parking lot dispute, authorities said.

Timothy Lynch, 22, of Chicopee, was charged with assault and battery on person 60 or order, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person 60 or older, Chicopee police said in a news release posted on its Facebook page.

Lynch was given a $500 bail, but it was revoked by a bail clerk after the suspect “became belligerent,” police said.

Officers responded at 2:30 p.m. Friday and found the victim on the ground with injuries to his legs, nose and ear, Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk told WWLP.

According to Wilk, the victim said a car entered the parking lot at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting him, the television station reported. When the victim approached the driver of the car, the passenger, later identified as Lynch, allegedly got out of the car and punched him, knocking him to the ground, WWLP reported.

Lynch allegedly kicked the victim before re-entering the car, which drove away, the television station reported.

The victim was treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital by ambulance, police said.

At that point, Wilk said, Lynch returned to the scene and told police he did not like how the victim was being disrespectful to the driver, WWLP reported.

Police arrested Lynch, who was booked at the Chicopee Police Department. After his bail was revoked, Lynch was taken to the Ludlow Correctional Facility, police said.
