An American Airlines plane was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday night at St. Louis-Lambert International Airport when a passenger tried to open an exit door, officials said.

The plane, traveling from Chicago to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, was forced to land when the unidentified passenger attempted to open the emergency exit door while the plane was traveling at 30,000 feet, KXAS reported.

A passenger aboard the aircraft said flight attendants tackled the man and subdued him for 25 minutes, WWMT reported. The man was arrested when the plane landed in St. Louis.

"Everyone who could get to the guy got the guy to subdue him," DJ Mitchell, one of the passengers who held the man on the ground, told KXAS. "There was no screaming, no excitement. (It was) a little nerve-wracking, but that's about it."
