6 shot, 1 dead in shooting at Maryland shopping plaza

A 13-year-old boy was killed and five other people were injured during a shooting at a Maryland shopping plaza early Sunday, authorities said.

Baltimore County police said Rickie Forehand was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight, WMAR reported.

The other shooting victims, two 12-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man, were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, The Baltimore Sun reported.

According to detectives, the victims were attending an event at the Triple Threat Elite Dance studio, WMAR reported. Police said the victims were approached by several suspects and a fight ensued, followed by multiple shots fired toward the group, the television station reported.

"We just received multiple calls shortly after midnight for the disturbance in the parking lot. When the officers arrived, it was a pretty big scene and they were trying to figure out what happened," Sgt. Vickie Warehime, of the Baltimore County police, told WBAL. "But, with multiple victims at the hospital, it's going to be an ongoing investigation."

The shooter or shooters fled the scene before police arrived.

Homicide detectives said they are interviewing numerous people from the event, and are searching for any video surveillance in the area, WMAR reported.

"This level of violence is unacceptable. We had children that were shot last night,” Baltimore County Police Chief Melissa Hyatt said at a news conference Sunday. “And an adolescent lost his life for some senseless and unknown reason
