US-based artist and mother-of-two, Katherine Dey, 31, has taken the phrase 'good enough to eat' to a new level with graphic body part cake art.

Dey has uploaded videos of her unnervingly realistic creations to Instagram, with one showing a knife chopping what appears to be a human hand holding a carrot, both of which are actually cakes.

The artist has created cakes of hearts, eyeballs and skulls.

Dey, who started baking as a hobby when she studied nursing, told Reuters that one of her first body part cakes was inspired by her classes - in her maternity class she learned that 'placenta' meant flat and it gave her the idea of doing a flat cake shaped like a placenta.

Describing the reaction she receives when people see her cakes, Dey added that "they want to eat it and run away at the same time."
