Dr. Louis Larmoyeux beat the coronavirus, and quite frankly, as a 76-year-old, he beat the odds.

Larmoyeux and his wife believe they contracted the virus while he was on a cruise in February. The virus forced Larmoyeux to retire early, not giving him the chance to say goodbye to all of his patients as originally planned.

Larmoyeux Family Medicine started in 1920 in Jacksonville by Larmoyeux’s great aunt. Larmoyeux joined the practice in 1973; his father and brother practiced there as well.

This is the second time Larmoyeux has survived a life-threatening illness. The first time was in 1994 when he contracted a flesh-eating strain of the strep throat while treating patients.

Larmoyeux was tested for antibodies Wednesday. The test came back positive. He said he and his wife are both looking forward to donating plasma to help others in the fight against the coronavirus.

There are 43,202 confirmed deaths and 1,874 deaths from the coronavirus in Florida, according to The New York Times.
