According to The Associated Press, the winglets of Southwest Flight 1555, which was headed to St. Louis, and Southwest Flight 4580, bound for Atlanta, collided during pushback outside the gate, an airline spokeswoman said.
Officials took both airplanes out of service and transferred passengers to different planes following the incident, the airline said.
Passenger Eric Borden tweeted that the collision delayed his flight for hours. He also shared a photo of the damaged winglet.
"Welcome to Crashville," he quipped.
Welcome to Crashville. Got stuck waiting on a plane at BNA due to weather on the way back to Atlanta. We finally pull back and they crash the plane into another plane. Took the S right off. What’s going on @SouthwestAir #Crashville #outhwest #Letsgo pic.twitter.com/zZrf5JP3sZ
