Will Smith shares fan art tribute to Robin Williams, Disney's original Genie

The trailer for Disney's 2019 remake of "Aladdin" has given fans a better look at Will Smith's turn as Genie, but he's still paying tribute to the original Genie voiced by Robin Williams in 1992.

Smith shared fan art from a freelance character designer named Luigi Lucarelli that depicted 2D animated versions of Genie. One was the 1992 original and the second was a similar version, made in Smith’s likeness.

It’s no secret that Williams, who died in 2014, played a major role in bringing the character to life and influenced the final design of Genie in the the original film series.

"I know Genies don't have Feet... But you left some Big Shoes to fill," Smith captioned the post, in which he also gave credit to Lucarelli.

Lucarelli was pleasantly surprised at the shoutout. According to the artist, the actor's production company, Westbrook, had contacted him last year after he created key art inspired by "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air."  For now, Lucarelli said he's just glad Smith saw his Genie artwork.
