A Chicago-based home furniture store is planning to open a location at two Dayton-area malls.
The Room Place will open a location at the Dayton Mall and the Mall at Fairfield Commons, according to a press release from Washington Prime Group which owns both malls.
The Room Place has already finalized leases for both locations with mall owners, according a press release.
Opening dates are yet to be announced. This news organization has reached out to the Dayton Mall’s general manager and the marketing director at Fairfield Commons for comment.
“When an outstanding furniture retailer with a venerable 100 year history takes vacated department store space, let's just say if I were an emoji kind of person, there'd be a smiley face or two illustrating our happiness,” Washington Prime CEO Lou Conforti said in a prepared statement.
The Room Place started in Chicago in 1912, according to the company’s website. The furniture retailer has since opened 25 stores and expanded to Indianapolis.
The Room Place offers shoppers a “total-room concept to furniture shopping” by selling coordinated room sets, according to the company’s website. This news organization has reached out to a spokesman for the stores.
The Room Place isn’t the only new retailer that could be opening at the Dayton Mall. Miami Twp. records revealed last month that discount clothing store Ross Dress For Less could also open a location at the mall.
A recent report showed that the Dayton Mall has fewer empty storefronts compared to its peers in other cities. The Dayton Mall is around 95 percent occupied, according to the report from real estate research firm Reis.
Dayton-area malls have mostly escaped closures by major department but Elder-Beerman is expected to close its store at the Dayton Mall in August.
