“When an outstanding furniture retailer with a venerable 100 year history takes vacated department store space, let's just say if I were an emoji kind of person, there'd be a smiley face or two illustrating our happiness,” Washington Prime CEO Lou Conforti said in a prepared statement.
The Room Place started in Chicago in 1912, according to the company’s website. The furniture retailer has since opened 25 stores and expanded to Indianapolis.
The Room Place offers shoppers a “total-room concept to furniture shopping” by selling coordinated room sets, according to the company’s website. This news organization has reached out to a spokesman for the stores.

The Room Place isn’t the only new retailer that could be opening at the Dayton Mall. Miami Twp. records revealed last month that discount clothing store Ross Dress For Less could also open a location at the mall.
A recent report showed that the Dayton Mall has fewer empty storefronts compared to its peers in other cities. The Dayton Mall is around 95 percent occupied, according to the report from real estate research firm Reis.
Dayton-area malls have mostly escaped closures by major department but Elder-Beerman is expected to close its store at the Dayton Mall in August.
