New Mexican restaurant-market to open on Sunday

The La Michoacana Mexican Market & Restaurant that has been under construction for more than a year at 6220 Chambersburg Road in the Huber Plaza is scheduled to open this Sunday, May 31, its owners told this news outlet today.

Starting Sunday, the 20,000-square-foot grocery store and eatery will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

“We are opening another location thanks to the great response of our community,” Jose A. Gomez, manager of the La Michoacana #5 store at 748 Troy St. in Dayton who will also oversee the new La Michoacana #10 store in the Huber Plaza, said early last year, when the project first started.

“We want to make sure we continue to meet demands and are also wanting to reach out to more people. La Michoacana #5 in Dayton will remain open, and we wanted to expand and have more to offer” with the Huber Heights location, Gomez said.

La Michoacana, which also operates several Columbus-area stores, offers fresh fruits and vegetables, an extensive selection of meats, Latin-American groceries, money transfers, bill payments, authentic Mexican dishes and fresh bread, Gomez said.

The new La Michoacana Mexican Market & Restaurant coming to Huber Heights could open as early as the end of May if all goes well with the final stages of build-out and construction, the market's owners told this news outlet today.

La Michoacana Mexican Market & Restaurant is expanding in the Dayton area, adding a new location in Huber Heights.

The new market is under construction at 6220 Chambersburg Road in the Huber Plaza, in the same retail strip where Alematic Artisan Ales opened to the public last week.

The Columbus-based chain operates a market at 748 Troy St. in Dayton along with eight more markets in the Columbus area. The Troy Street location, known as La Michoacana #5, “will remain open,” a spokesperson for the chain told this news outlet.

The new Huber Heights location, La Michoacana #10, is scheduled to open this spring, according to a construction worker at the site.

More than half of the products sold in La Michoacana are imports from Mexico and Latin America. The store has a large produce selection, in-house butcher cutting meats to order, a full-service restaurant and items commonly used in Latino kitchens, company officials say on the La Michoacana web site.

A spokesperson for La Michoacana said the chain will be releasing more details about the new store in the coming weeks.
