New Pharmacy Law Limits Purchase Of Cold Medicine

A new law went into effect in Ohio Wednesday, making it harder to purchase the main ingredient used to make the drug methamphetamine.

Store shelves may seem bare because any medicine with nasal decongestant pseudoephedrine in it is now behind the pharmacy counter.

Under the new law, stores are also required to limit the amount of the drugs sold to each person. A pharmacist said people can buy three 24-packs of the medicine at one time, which is enough to last about one month.

Pharmacy officials also said both Sudafed and Contac D are being kept behind the pharmacy counter, including their generic counterparts.
