New store set to open in the Oregon District

A new store is set to open in the Oregon District in September.

Luna Gifts and Botanicals, the sister store Heart Mercantile, will open in the space that formally housed Sew Dayton. It will be located next to Press Coffee at 261 Wayne Ave.

The shop is owned by six women: Brittany Smith, Kelsey Kussman, Tracy Robillard, Sarah Smith, Carly Barrett and Kelley Fortener, according to a post announcing the store opening.

Heart Mercantile is clothing, home goods and gifts store located at 504 5th St.

The store will have a “different look, feel and product line,” Smith wrote. They expect to open the shop in the middle of September.

Barrett, one of the owners, said they saw the space was open and decided to take the leap. The group of women are sisters, daughters, photographers and friends.

“We’ll sell a lot of plants and gifts from Etsy makers,” she said. “We’ve known each other for a long time. We have a kind of trust and the relationship that makes working together fun.”

Barrett said the shop will have a Bohemian feeling.

“We’ll have a nice mix of everything,” she said.
