The Dark Horse Tavern in Miamisburg has reopened after being shut down for nearly four months.

The pub had closed Aug. 1, when its owner, Dennis Williams, told this news outlet the bar had become difficult and time-consuming to manage, in part because he had other businesses to run. Williams put the bar and property up for sale, but no deal was reached with any potential buyers.

“We talked him into reopening it,” said Nikky Vontz, the new manager of the bar and restaurant, who had worked at Dark Horse nearly a decade earlier.

The liquor selection has been upgraded with more selections, and the management has assembled a new team of employees, Vontz said. The food menu has returned intact, including Dark Horse’s barbecue specialties such as brisket, smoked for 15 hours on the pub’s own smoker.

Dark Horse no longer has a cover charge on Friday and Saturday live-music nights, and has shifted the focus on Friday nights to more acoustic or jazz musical acts, and the genres will expand for Saturday night acts, and will include rock, funk and country, Vontz said.

Dark Horse Tavern’s hours are 11:30 a.m. to midnight Tuesday through Thursday, and 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The tavern, which reopened in mid-November, is closed on Sundays and Mondays, Vontz said.
