A fire that caused the death of a nursing home resident during the evacuation remains under investigation.

An elderly woman who suffered a head injury during the Friday evacuation of an Enon transitional-care facility has died, the State Fire Marshal’s office said.

The woman, believed to be age 89, was a resident of Dayspring of Miami Valley, 8001 Dayton-Springfield Road. The woman fell and suffered a head injury escaping the fire, and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital, according to state fire marshal’s officials.

The woman’s name has not been released pending family notification.

More than 120 residents and employees of the nursing home were evacuated briefly after a fire started in a laundry storage room just before 6 p.m. Friday.

The building’s sprinkler system activated and helped contain the fire to the laundry room, officials said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. An investigation is being conducted by the Division of State Fire Marshal, the Clark County Sheriff’s office and the Mad River Township Fire department.
