Officers Request Backup In Alleged Domestic Incident

Officers responded to a home in Riverside after a woman called for help, but then they needed to call for backup themselves. The incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday on Kalida Court in Riverside.

Officers said a woman was allegedly assaulted and a man, Christopher Barksdale, 49, reportedly refused to listen to police instructions.

Authorities said officers had to force their way into the apartment. Once inside, officers found a woman crying with a wound on the side of her head.

Police then asked Barksdale, who was inside the apartment to put his hands behind his back. Investigators said he refused, so officers were forced to use pepper spray.

Riverside police said Barksdale was so combative that officers dropped a 99 which signaled that officers were in trouble and needed help. A number of people responded, but the officers managed to get Barksdale under control without the help of additional officers.

Medics took Barksdale to a local hospital to be examined. They checked the woman’s injuries, but she refused treatment at the scene.

Riverside police said the woman told them there have been previous instances of domestic violence with her husband. Authorities said Barksdale is now in the Montgomery County Jail and is expected to face charges of domestic violence and resisting arrest.
