Ohio boy charged with shooting and killing his mother

MILLERSBURG, Ohio (AP) -- A 10-year-old Ohio boy has been charged as a juvenile with murder in the fatal shooting of his mother.

Wearing an orange jumpsuit and shackles, the boy appeared Monday in a Holmes County courtroom with his attorney, who entered the juvenile equivalent of a not guilty plea. A judge ordered that the boy continue to be held in Richland County Juvenile Detention as authorities investigate the shooting.

Holmes County Sheriff Tim Zimmerly said 46-year-old Deborah McVay was found dead of a gunshot wound to the head Sunday night in her home in Big Prairie, about midway between Cleveland and Columbus.

Authorities say officers went to the home after a neighbor called a sheriff's dispatcher to say McVay's son came to her home and said he'd just shot his mother.
