Patriots Day is a holiday designated to commemorate the first battles of the American Revolutionary War.

The rally is supposed to be a “celebration of patriotism and freedom” rather than a protest or a political event, according to the association.

Gun rights have been the subject of great scrutiny since the February shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. There were 17 people killed in the school shooting.

The shooting led to several walkouts at Dayton area schools and culminated in the March For Our Lives on March 24 in Washington, D.C.

Speakers at the Statehouse rally will talk about historical information and the role of “private ownership of firearms played in our country’s founding,” according to the association.
