Ohio health department to close local office

The Ohio Department of Health will close its local office by the end of this month but it plans to lease office space from Public Health - Dayton & Montgomery County to continue operations in the area, health department officials confirmed Friday.

The move, described as a cost-cutting measure, will affect an unknown number of Ohio health department employees at the Dayton district office at One S. Main St., Suite 440.

But ODH will maintain at least some staff at local health department offices.

“ODH has identified an opportunity to reduce operating costs by sharing services and office space with the local health department in the Dayton area,” reads a statement from the state health department. “This decision will not impact health care services provided to Ohioans. We continue to review all options related to staffing, and every effort is being made to assist employees and minimize the impact of this change.”

In addition to Dayton, ODH has district offices in Ohio in Columbus, Reynoldsburg, Akron, Cambridge and Toledo.
