One Arrested, One On The Loose In Double Shooting

One man is behind bars and another is on the run in connection with an execution-style shooting. Authorities said one victim died and another survived.

On Tuesday night, Dayton police and members of a federal task force arrested one suspect. On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for a second man.

Police described the double shooting last week on Danner Avenue as a calculated assassination. Officials said the surviving victim was able to give information to detectives before he lost consciousness.

Jokova James, 34, was arrested on an outstanding federal warrant for possession of bulletproof vests and a Dayton warrant for felony assault and armed robbery in connection with the shooting last week.

James was picked up at a condominium complex in Miami Township late Tuesday night. Authorities said they searched and seized his car for possible blood evidence.

Investigators said his car is believed to have been the getaway car used in the fatal shooting on Danner Avenue.

Police said last week, passing motorists thought they had come upon an accident after spotting the car still running on the side of the road. They said Matthew Fairman, 20, was lying near the vehicle bleeding.

Officers discovered he had been shot in the face. They also found Dorian Sims, 19, dead in the back seat of the car handcuffed and shot in the back of the head.

Police continue looking for the second suspect, James Carr. Warrants were issued for his arrest. They believe James and Carr may be connected to several violent crimes.

Authorities said James was arrested two months ago on suspicion of allegedly firing a paintball gun at a grandmother and her grandchild after she complained of his alleged drug sales in front of a Dayton market.

Investigators said later that evening, the woman claimed James fired a real gun into her home, hitting a man inside in the shoulder.

James is being held on a $1 million bond in the Montgomery County Jail. If you have any information on the whereabouts of Carr, contact Dayton police at 333-COPS.
