Opening day today for Merit Grill restaurant in Kettering

The new Merit Grill opened today, March 1, at 3800 Wilmington Pike in the space that previously held the Kettering Grill & Cafe.

The Kettering Grill & Cafe shut down Feb. 19, and the restaurant underwent a 10-day makeover to pave the way for the new restaurant’s opening.

Oscar Gibran, Merit Grill’s general manager, told this news outlet two weeks ago that the Merit Grill would have a new chef, with a menu focus on dishes made from scratch and offered at an affordable price.

Merit Grill’s menu features dishes from around the world, including Italy, Mexico and Asia, and includes steak dishes, and a daily special, Gibran said. The restaurant’s wine and beer selections also have been expanded.

Merit Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

The Kettering Grill & Cafe opened in November 2014 in space that previously housed the Bar-B-Q Hut, a mainstay in Kettering for 25 years before it closed in October 2011. The building originally was built as a Friendly’s restaurant.
