Alas, poor Robin Williams.
Celebrities shuffle the mortal coil all the time, of course, but it’s the rare star whose passing ignites the amount of sadness and anguish that poured from people Monday night. Do you remember where you were when you heard John Lennon died? I don’t know if we realized Williams was in that league until it happened, but I know I’ll remember where I was when I heard about his suicide.
“Robin Williams was one of the funniest people I’ve ever seen and a true talent without compare,” one of my Facebook friends wrote. “A true master of improvisation and genuine talent. But that kind of intensity, that kind of genius sometimes takes its toll on the human within the human. No one will truly understand what goes on inside such an amazing talent. Not unlike Jonathan Winters, his friend and mentor, these people often have a quality that is not to be understood.”
