It's all politics. Paul Deen hasn't said or done anything most of Americans — white, black, or otherwise — haven't done said or done in the last 40 years. Let her alone.
I think this is way over the top, thanks to the media coverage. Paula Deen is not running for a political office, and she did not go on air during her cooking show and use racial comments at any time. What she may or may not have said during a private conversation with a family member is not without the expectation of privacy.
This Paula Deen thing has been blown all out of proportion. She apologized so let's move on. Has anyone ever been in the hot seat and lost endorsements for saying "cracker"? I think not. The easiest way to raise ire and — I feel — get money and draw attention is to claim race. I will support Paula Deen because she is now the victim.
Paula Deen's firing by the Food Network is atrocious. She grew up in the South in that time. She has apologized and that should be the end of it.
I don't need someone from CNN to tell me who is a racist, and who isn't, like they are trying to do with Paula Deen. I would feel better though if they would tell me the difference between a "good" Muslim and a "bad" Muslim.
I certainly think Food Network has overreacted. Paula Deen is from the Deep South and anyone who thinks that word wasn't used by most every man, woman and child back then is delusional. It is ludicrous for the Food Network to kick her to the curb.
Personally, I see no reason why Paula Deen should be taken from the airwaves or any of the other entities. This political correctness baloney is getting real sickening. …
Let's pretend for a minute that Paula Deen is black and it comes out that she said some derogatory remarks about whites. Would there be this uproar? We all — even the people running the sponsors that are dropping her — have said or done things in our past that we are sorry for. We need to understand it is from a different time and place. People do change. Lighten up, world.
I believe that if all the Americans of all races who have used racial slurs at some point in their life were fired, we would lose 90 percent of our work force. I believe that Paula Deen should be forgiven. Let's ask Congress and other government officials the same question under oath and see who's left. We all make mistakes or bad choices at some point in our lives.
While I don't condone racism of any kind, I don't think that Paula Deen has been treated fairly. She was only being honest in a deposition. Would it have been better had she lied? Anyway, I have to wonder who can honestly say that they have never said that word in their lives. Paula and I both grew up in the times that the word was commonly used without a second thought; so for her to be publicly disgraced for telling the truth about something that has been prevalent for hundreds of years is simply ridiculous.
