Should actress run for Senate seat?

TODAY’S MODERATOR

You’ve probably seen her in films like “Double Jeopardy” and “Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood.” Maybe you saw her on TV in “Sisters” or “Missing.” But can you see actress Ashley Judd serving in the U.S. Senate?

Judd, daughter of country singer Naomi Judd, reportedly is considering whether to take on the top Republican in the Senate — Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky — when McConnell runs for re-election in 2014. And Republicans reportedly are taking the potential threat seriously.

Judd, 44, supported President Obama’s re-election bid last year and would provide a more liberal alternative for Kentucky voters to the conservative McConnell. She would also draw national attention to the race.

She wouldn’t be the first actor to get into politics, of course. Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger immediately come to mind.

Although the vast majority of our readers wouldn’t be casting ballots in the race, we’re still curious about what you think. Could Judd unseat McConnell? Or would she be trounced in red-state Kentucky? Drop me a line at mwilliams@coxohio.com.
