1 person shot in parking lot outside bar

Police said one, possibly two shooters, opened fire in a parking lot outside a Jefferson Street bar early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the parking lot across the street from The Vault, 20 Jefferson St., around 2:10 a.m. Dayton Lt. Donald Burden said a disturbance inside the bar reportedly led to the shooting. One or two people armed with semi-automatic handguns exited the bar and fired at least 15 shots into a crowd, Burden said.

A 26-year-old Dayton man was shot in the foot, and attempted to take himself to the hospital. The victim drove to the area of Park Drive and Wyoming Street, where he exited the vehicle and tried to walk to Miami Valley Hospital. Burden said the man was unable to walk to the hospital, and a medic was requested the transport him. The victim’s injuries are not considered serious and he will likely survive, Burden said.

While investigating, police discovered several unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot outside the bar also were hit during the gunfire, but no other shooting victims were found, according to Burden.

Police are still investigating whether the gunfire was a random incident or if the shooter was targeting a specific person. So far, police do not have any descriptions or leads on a possible suspect or suspects. Burden said witnesses are encouraged to contact Dayton Police at 333-COPS if they have any information on the shooting.
