Pickleball courts dedicated at Troy's Duke Park

What's pickleball?

Due to the increasing popularity of a game called Pickleball, two tennis courts at Duke Park in Troy have been changed into 3 Pickleball courts.

The game is very similar to badminton, tennis and ping-pong, but you use a three inch wiffle ball and a paddle much like a ping-pong paddle. The net on the Pickleball court is lower than the net on a tennis court and the court is much smaller.

The game was developed by two men in Washington state in 1965 after getting tired of their child whining about being bored with nothing to do when out of school for the summer months.

The game was named after a family cocker spaniel dog that would chase after the ball used in this new game and hide it in the bushes, thus the name Pickleball became the name of the game.
