Officers spoke to a witness who said the suspect and victim were arguing before the suspect fired a single shot at the victim’s driver side door while the victim was in the driver’s seat, the report stated. The bullet struck the top of the window near the door frame, roughly three inches from his head.
The witness told police the victim chased the suspect’s vehicle as it fled west on West Leffel Lane and turned south onto South Limestone Street before both vehicles got onto the highway.
The victim reportedly chased the suspect “to about the fairgrounds exit” when the suspect stopped in the middle of the highway, put his vehicle in reverse and began backing up towards the victim, the report stated. The victim said he then felt things were getting “too dangerous” and left, heading east on Interstate 70.
A second witness also told police the suspect pulled into the gas station before the suspect and victim began arguing because the suspect thought the victim hit his vehicle when pulling into the gas station, the report stated.
According to the report, the suspect can be described as a man covered with numerous tattoos, wearing a white tank top and dark-colored gym shorts.
Springfield police continue their investigation into this incident.
