Police: 3-Year-Old Burned In Potty-Training Accident

Mother, Boyfriend Arrested In Case

Police in Dayton said a mother of a 3-year-old girl did not take her injured daughter to the hospital because her boyfriend is a registered sex offender and is on parole.

According to police, the couple was afraid that he would be arrested.

Jeremy Ely and Christina Allen are now being held in prison. Ely is accused of burning the hands of the child in scalding hot water after a potty-training accident.

Police reports said officers found the skin on her fingers peeling after her grandmother called police.

Sgt. Larry Tolpin said, "The child has been suffering from these severe burns to her hands for approximately two weeks."

Allen was arrested in connection with not getting her daughter the medical attention that she needed, police said. According to investigators, the woman was trying to protect Ely who is a registered sex offender on parole.

"They were concerned that he would be incarcerated as a result and decided not to contact authorities," Tolpin said.

According to police, after they examined the girl further, they discovered that she had more injuries.

Police reports indicated that the girl had bruising and welts on her bottom, and one of them measured approximately 11 inches.

The child is now in the custody of children's services. Allen and Ely are facing a maximum of five years in prison, if convicted.
