The entire complex went dark around 7:30 a.m.
The city of Kettering is undergoing a major reconstruction project there and officials are convinced that the project was not the source of the power problem.
Sonja Rom said, "We just got into the emergency plan, shut certain areas down based on lighting and life safety."
There were some long faces at the Kettering Recreation Center when the power went out. People were trying to wrap up their workouts and get to work.
A lot of programs were also canceled because the Rosewood Art Center, The Senior Center and the Recreation all lost electricity.
"We had to cancel our senior lunch program and bingo that seniors count on and also some youth programs," said Rom.
The facility director said a lot of people had questions and wondered if the power outage had anything to do with the reconstruction project that is underway.
Officials said there is no indication of that, but they were concerned because an outage can be costly for the ice arena.
Sonja Rom said, "We only have about a ten hour window before we lose the ice."
The power was restored in about two hours.
Around 280 customers lost power according to the Dayton Power and Light Company. Officials are still trying to find out what caused the power shutdown.
