Regarding Sunset Pool

Regarding Sunset Pool: I've been there three times with my children this summer. The pool has been closed. I've been there two times, last weekend and the weekend before on Sunday. Both Sundays the pool was closed. Lifeguards were swimming. They told me they didn't have enough people coming to the pool so they didn't want to pay the lifeguards to work. I work at a dentist office here in Middletown. I can't tell you the number of people who I've spoken to, who also went to the pool those weekends and found it closed. ... I know they're trying to find funding to keep it open every year, but if they don't keep it open for people who work. ... Kids have sports and when they come home and they're ready to go swimming and then there's nowhere to swim. Why fund it if you're not going to keep it open? It's sad.

I was reading in the paper that the future of Sunset Pool is up in the air again over money. I was just wondering — since Middletown is in the golf business with the golf course at Weatherwax — why don't they put that money into Sunset Pool and let the golf course pay for the swimming pool? If the rich can play golf, why don't we fund the swimming pool — basically, which is for the blue-collar people and their children? The "have's" could help the "have not's."

... Over the weekend this past week, I just noticed some wonderful things going on. But I have not seen any articles about that in the paper. Douglass Park, which is now used for football, has shown great, great diversity, (and) great activity in the park. Family, friends, everyone working together. Wouldn't it be great to see an article and pictures of something good going on in Middletown? Things like this need to be shown. Yes, we need business. Yes, they need financial support. But showing a community that works together, that plays together, is a positive thing for Middletown. Build on the good things that you have. Start showing people that Middletown is a good community to live in.

In Obama's health-care plan, there is a provision called "end of life counseling." It actually means, if you're old and need expensive treatment, it's the end of your health care. ... But heck, just look at it this way — you will be helping the economy, by becoming part of the stimulus plan. You will go into the category of "shovel-ready projects." I suggest we senior citizens wake up and be super-active, before it is too late. ...
