Remains Exhumed From 55-Year Old Death In Oxford

The remains of a body found 55 years ago in Georgia were exhumed Friday to determine if it is that of a Miami University student.

Ron Tammen, 19, disappeared from his Oxford dorm in 1953. Months later, a man’s body was found in Georgia that was never identified. The remains were exhumed on Friday morning.

Investigators said they believe the remains are in good shape and that DNA can be taken from them. The DNA will be compared with that of Tammen’s family members.

If there is a match, the case would be upgraded to an active homicide investigation.
