Remembering 48 area servicemen who died on active duty since 2002

Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, a Springboro native, was killed during a joint operation that was being conducted by U.S. and Nigerien forces on Wednesday, the Department of Defense said.

Mali-based militants in Niger's Tillaberi region is responsible for the attacks, the release said.

Prior to Johnson’s death, at least 43 servicemen from the region died on active duty since 2002, according to Department of Defense data
