Repairs continue after gas leak stopped in Fairborn

UPDATE @ 4 p.m.

The gas leak has been shut off and the situation is under control, according to a Fairborn fire official.

A Vectren crew remained at the scene to finish repairs but the fire department has left and residents are able to move about freely without cause for concern.

FIRST REPORT

Emergency personnel in Fairborn are advising people to stay away from the Patriot Ridge Community off Stoneybrook Trail because of a ruptured main gas line.

Fairborn Fire Battalion Chief Laura Kerr said a 4-inch main line was ruptured and it will take several hours before the gas feed can be shut off.

Traffic was blocked on Stoneybrook Trail just south of Armstrong Road.

People who live in the Patriot Ridge Community are being advised to “shelter in place” and not go outside.

Kerr said they are discouraging anyone from visiting the community until the problem is fixed.

That may be three to four hours.

Vectren will have to dig the hole and run a new pipe to bypass the main line before the gas feed can be shut off, Kerr said.
