An alligator that was found in a Huber Heights basement has a new home.

Workers with the Ohio Department of Agriculture transported the seven-foot alligator to Arrowhead Reptile Rescue in Butler County Sunday, according to reports.

The executive director of the non-profit said the alligator is one of the worst he’s ever seen. The alligator suffers from metabolic bone disease, which has left his jaw deformed and his teeth sticking out. The alligator is also doing poorly from lack of sunlight, as he was kept in a basement for more than a decade, according to officials.

The alligator is recovering and is eating again, and he’s eaten a large carp and a chicken. The alligator weighs 130 pounds, but experts said it should weigh at least 250 pounds.
