Rumpke Trash Truck Flips Off Road

A Rumpke trash truck was involved in a rollover crash around 8 a.m. on Dearth Road in Franklin Twp., according to the Warren County dispatch.

According to Sgt. Stan Jordan, the truck came around the corner, got too far off the roadway and with the recent rain making the ground pretty soft, the shoulder gave way.

The driver's leg was trapped under the truck. Emergency crews used air bags to lift the truck and free the leg, Jordan said. CareFlight was called to the scene and the driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Rumpke spokesperson.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with our driver,” said Molly Yeager, Rumpke corporate communications coordinator. “Now that he is seeking medical treatment, our focus turns to investigating what happened and how we can prevent accidents like this from occurring in the future.”

The owner of the property where the crash occurred was not surprised when the crash happened. Blanche Lovely said she watched the crash happen. "The truck was making all kinds of noise coming around the curve. It just kept leaning, but he was trying to get it under control. ... They have a lot of wrecks here. I've had my fence torn down three or four times."

Franklin emergency personnel and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and are currently working with Rumpke safety officials to investigate the incident.

The driver will likely be issued a citation for failure to control.
