Saturday event includes jazz, reggae, Motown bands

Although the Broad Street Bash has finished with its regular Wednesday concerts for the year, it’s trying something new this Saturday.

It’s the first Cross Cultural Bash, which will be held from 3 t0 10 p.m. Saturday around Governor’s Square Park downtown. The idea of the event is to attract people who don’t go for the classic rock the Bash typically offers during the summer, said Adriane Scherrer, one of the event’s organizers.

The event begins with local talents performing throughout the crowd, including saxophone players, local choirs, street corner quartets, and more.

On the main stage at 4 p.m. will be Gregg Clark and The Royal Blues Band. At 6 p.m. is the Elementree Livity Project, a reggae band. Then at 8 p.m. will be the headliner, 2nd Wind, which plays Motown, R&B and jazz.

“We got to a place where we could do a day with gospel, reggae blues and funk,” Scherrer said.

The Bash also has one more event coming up, the second annual Monster Bash on Oct. 12 with the bands Inspector 12 and Perspective.
