Police said one of the bullets pierced the top of the school's front door. They also said two more bullets struck an air conditioning unit in a window.
Authorities said no one inside the school was injured. However, school officials acted fast and put the school in lockdown, keeping everyone in the classrooms and away from windows.
Investigators said all on-duty Brookville officers rushed to the school. But, moments later they got another call, saying that the Brookville Building and Savings Bank a few miles away had been robbed.
Brookville Police Chief Ed Preston said once officers arrived at the bank they realized the bank had been robbed by the same person who fired shots into the school. They said the woman who robbed the bank shot at the school as a diversion for police.
Police said the woman waved a gun at a teller and then fled with a bag of money. The teller told officers that she slipped a dye pack into the bag, which exploded as the suspect drove away.
Authorities said the suspect is a white female driving a mid-1980s maroon Ford Thundersbird.
