4 seek to fill vacant seat created by death of Moraine councilman

Four people have applied for the vacancy on Moraine City Council.

Bob Allen, Rocky Bangert, Donald Burchett and Basil Tom Hicks are all seeking to fill the seat created by the death of three-term City Councilman Jim McGuire.

McGuire died March 26 death at age 72. Moraine City Council has scheduled a special meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday to discuss the vacancy.

Council has 30 days from the time of the vacancy to it, according to the city’s charter. Regardless of whether council appoints a successor or not, according to the city, a special election will be held in November to fill the unexpired term, which was on the ballot in 2017.

McGuire, a three-term councilman, was elected to an at-large council seat in 2009, according to the elections board. He ran unopposed in re-election bids in 2013 and last year.
