Semitrailer clips camper-trailer in Preble County

UPDATE @ 7:12 p.m.: A semitrailer clipped a camper-trailer in the 9300 block of state Route 40 East in Preble County, briefly trapping a male teenager who was illegally riding in the trailer, a sergeant with the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Sgt. Frank Simmons said the semi and a pickup truck hauling the camper-trailer were both headed east when the pickup truck slowed to make a right turn off the highway toward the Archway Campground, on Old National Road. That’s when the semi struck the rear of the camper-trailer, causing it to tip over.

Troopers and rescuers had to pry open the camper to free the teenager, who Simmons said was not seriously injured.

The driver of the semi was not injured. The two adults and as many as two other children in the pickup were not injured.

Simmons said the drivers of the semi and the pickup will be cited. He noted that in Ohio and Indiana, it is illegal for anyone to ride in a camper that is being towed.
