Space Heater Blamed For Dayton Fire

Authorities in Dayton said a fire broke out Tuesday morning and they said it was started by a space heater.

The fire happened in the 2400 block of South Smithville Road.

Investigators said a space heater sparked the fire in an apartment when an extension cord melted, causing the carpet to catch on fire.

Fire officials said space heaters should be used as a last resort because they can cause so many problems.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the front room.
