SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--The largest hotel in Springfield Twp. moves a step closer to becoming part of the city of Springfield

Clark County Commissioners on Tuesday approved annexing the 7-acre property at 383 E. Leffel Lane to the city.

Under the Cooperative Economic Development Agreement approved 12 years ago, ther township will avoid losing some $60,000 in revenue.

In fact, it could actually gain some funding.

The plan calls for the township to receive 12.5 percent of the city’s income tax paid by hotel workers who are not currently living in Springfield.

CEDA also requires the bed tax collected from the hotel to be split three ways: township and the city each will get 37.5 percent, while the Clark County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau will receive 25 percent.

The Quality Inn paid about $79,600 in lodging taxes last year, which was split equally between the CCCVB and the township, CCCVB Marketing Director Chris Schutte said.

Quality Inn owner Anuraag Mullick says he was forced to annex the hotel into the city to save on water and sewer costs.

He indicates his annual water and sewer costs are about $50,000 a year, while the hotel next door pays 50 percent less because it is located in the city limits.
