Springfield Schools Break Ground On New High School

Thousands of students from two different high schools are getting a better idea of what it will be like to be under the same roof.

Construction crews began working on the brand new Springfield High School, combining North and South high schools into one.

The new high school is being built near the current North High School. On Wednesday, the district held their groundbreaking ceremony.

Hundreds of teachers, students and community members attended the ceremony. They came from opposite sides of the city with the same mission – to educate students for tomorrow’s world.

The district already has 10 new elementaries, four new middle schools and a new alternative school. The state of Ohio is paying 82 percent of the cost.

Officials said about 2,400 students will be enrolled in the new high school.

The plan is to have new school completed by 2008, meaning the class of 2009 will be the first to graduate from the new building.
