Excellent fishing for anglers is expected across Ohio this spring.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources announced it will stock more than 100,000 rainbow trout in 66 public lakes.

The first rainbow trout release took place earlier this March at Adams Lake in Adams County.

Rainbow trout releases will continue through May 19.

Rainbow trout are raised at Ohio’s state fish hatcheries and measure 10 to 13 inches when they are stocked. They daily catch limit for inland lakes is five trout.

Anglers age 16 and older must have an Ohio fishing license, which costs $19 a year. A one-day fishing license costs $11 and may be redeemed for credit toward the purchase of an annual fishing license. Licenses and permits can be purchased online at the ODNR website and participating agents throughout the state.

Sales of fishing licenses along with the federal Sport Fish Restoration program continue to fund the operation of the Division of Wildlife’s fish hatcheries. No state tax dollars are used for this activity. This is a user-pay, user-benefit program, according to the ODNR.
